Tango trousers draw a different line

Trousers change what your dancing looks like. A skirt draws attention to the hem — the arc, the delay, the settle. Trousers draw it to the leg itself: the extension, the pivot, the moment the knee straightens.

Neither is more elegant. But they are read differently, and dancers who move with a lot of precision below the knee often find that a skirt hides exactly the thing they want seen.

What makes tango trousers work

Rise, first. A high waist gives the leg its full length and gives the trouser something to sit on, so it doesn’t shift through a pivot. Everything else follows from that.

Then the leg line. Too narrow and you fight it in a wide step. Too wide and it swallows the foot, which is the one thing on the floor you can’t afford to hide. We cut to keep the ankle visible and the movement free.

Fabric has to hold a crease through an evening and recover from sitting between tandas. A trouser that reads sharp at ten and creased at midnight isn’t finished.

Tango trousers, made to order in Istanbul

Produced in our Istanbul atelier after you order, one to two weeks. Length is the measurement that matters most in a trouser and the one most likely to need adjusting — our Adjust the Length service is ordered together with the piece, before the fabric is cut.
